India Just Got Its First Tempered Glass Factory for Phones!

India just kicked off its very first Tempered Glass Factory for making for mobile phones right here in Noida! It’s a huge deal, and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was there to cut the ribbon on August 30, 2025.

So, this Tempered Glass Factory is run by a company called Optiemus Infracom, and they’ve teamed up with Corning, those folks who make super tough Gorilla Glass. It’s set up in Noida’s Sector-68, and it’s all about making those shiny, scratch-resistant screens we all need for our phones. They’re starting with a ₹70 crore setup that’s gonna churn out 25 million pieces of tempered glass every year. That’s enough to cover a ton of phones, and it’s creating 600 jobs right off the bat!

Ashwini Vaishnaw was super pumped at the opening. He was like, “This is ‘Make in India’ in action!” He talked about how India’s electronics scene has blown up—think ₹11.5 lakh crore worth of stuff made here, with ₹3.5 lakh crore going out as exports. Plus, it’s hooked 2.5 million people up with jobs.

we’re making everything from chips to screens now, so we don’t have to beg other countries for parts.

The boss of Optiemus, Ashok Gupta, was there too, and he’s got big plans. He said India needs like 500 million pieces of tempered glass every year, worth ₹20,000 crore. Their brand, RhinoTech, is hitting the market next month with a dope one-year warranty—unlimited replacements if your screen protector cracks. They’re already planning a bigger Phase 2 with ₹800 crore to make 200 million units a year and hire 4,500 more people. That’s huge for Noida!

Oh, and the India Cellular & Electronics Association dude, Pankaj Mahindroo, was there saying this factory’s gonna make India a big player in the global market for phone accessories, which is worth like $60 billion. Plus, it’s gonna help small businesses here get in on the action.

Vaishnaw also dropped some cool news about India designing its own tech now, like a microcontroller from an IIT Madras startup that’s about to go into products. He even pushed Optiemus to beef up their R&D team to 400 people to keep the innovation rolling. And get this: he said a ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chip is coming soon, straight from a new plant in Gujarat. Modi’s apparently gonna dedicate it to the nation!

So yeah, this factory’s a big win for India. It’s not just about making phone screens, it’s about proving we can build top-notch stuff right here and take on the world. Next time you’re swiping on your phone, you might just be using Indian-made glass. Pretty cool, right?
