Bengaluru, August 18, 2025 — Foxconn iPhone 17 Production, a key manufacturing partner for Apple, has begun small-scale production of the iPhone 17 at its advanced facility in Devanahalli, Bengaluru, according to industry sources. This milestone underscores India’s growing significance in Apple’s global supply chain, diversifying production beyond China.
Facility and Investment Details
The Devanahalli plant, constructed with an investment of approximately $2.6–$2.8 billion (₹25,000 crore), is Foxconn’s second-largest manufacturing hub outside China. The facility complements existing iPhone production at Foxconn’s Chennai plant. Initially, the Bengaluru unit produced older models like the iPhone 16 and 16e, with plans to scale up to full capacity by December 2027.

Strategic Shift in Apple’s Supply Chain
Apple’s decision to manufacture iPhone 17 units in India aligns with its strategy to reduce dependency on China for U.S.-bound iPhones by 2026. Industry data indicates that India accounted for roughly 18% of global iPhone production in fiscal 2024, with Apple’s Indian manufacturing output reaching $14 billion, of which Foxconn contributed about 67%.
Production and Component Imports
Customs data reveals that Foxconn has started importing iPhone 17 components from China, signaling active preparation for assembly. The Bengaluru facility is expected to play a pivotal role in increasing India’s share of Apple’s global production capacity.
Industry Context and Implications
India’s emergence as a manufacturing hub reflects its competitive labor costs, improving infrastructure, and supportive government policies. Analysts project that Apple’s expansion in India will bolster local employment and technological expertise, further integrating the country into high-tech global supply chains.
